BEMIDJI -- Brainerd sophomore Justin Grunewald, competing in only his second varsity race, won the Bemidji Invitational with a time of 17:10 Friday.
Other Brainerd finishers included Brady Rutman, in fourth with a time of 17:53, Cory Olson sixth with a time of 18:08, and Louis Bedard seventh in 18:18.
"It was nice to pick up a win on the guys' side," said Brainerd head coach Dave Herath. "We have not won a meet in a couple of years.
"We packed it up very nicely with our first five runners in the top 11 overall."
The Brainerd girls placed second with 38 points and were paced by Abbie Tuomi with a second-place finish in 17:32. Ashley Schmolke placed sixth in 17:45 and Audree Goodew finished ninth in 18:04 overall.
