Verndale downs Hancock in league

HANCOCK -- The Verndale Pirates football team opened Pheasant Conference play with a 48-22 victory over the Hancock Owls Friday.

Jordan Hinkle of Verndale scored on runs of 3, 60 and 53 yards and on a 43-yard pass reception. Hinkle finished with 162 yards on 10 carries and 60 yards on three receptions.

Kyle Ashman, Justin Reggie and Cory Umland each picked off a pass. Reggie also had 11 tackles and Josh Richter 8.
