Dear Heloise: If you're going camping, take along a BIRD FEEDER with some birdseed or a hummingbird feeder with a bottle of sugar water in a cooler.
Hang the bird feeder with a wire coat hanger from a tree limb near your campsite. Do not use fishing line or any nylon filament because animals can become entangled in it or mistake it for food.
The feeder can provide hours of bird-watching or an outdoor classroom for children. -- Dr. James Revely, San Antonio
Hummingbirds are so entertaining to watch, as are our other feathered friends. -- Heloise
Dear Heloise: To tie tomatoes and pole beans, use the tape from old videotapes.
The flat surface of the tape will not injure the vines, and there is about 800 feet of tape. It's flexible enough to tie in knots, and it is very strong. -- Anthony Vaccari, Toms River, N.J.
RUG "BACK" TO NEW
Dear Heloise: I've never seen this helpful hint in any of your columns, so here it goes ...
I have a slice rug (half circle -- H) that I have in front of my sink, and it has lost its backing in the washer. Not wanting to dispose of it, I purchased a roll of the woven shelf liner that is rubberized, placed the rug on it, outlined it, cut out the liner and hand-stitched the outer edges.
It really works very well, and I didn't have to replace the throw rug -- it's just like new, or better! -- Maxine Galka, Mesa, Ariz.
