Adam Dooley of the Albany Golf Club posted a closing round 2-over 74 to claim the 20th MGA Mid-Amateur Championship Thursday at The Classic at Madden's in East Gull Lake.
Dooley's 54-hole 217 included a first-round 7-under-par 65 that was almost negated after his second-round 78.
Second round co-leader, Reed Kolquist of Enger Park Golf Course in Duluth, who managed to catch Dooley after shooting a 3-under 69 Wednesday, fell out of contention with a closing 78. Kolquist finished at 221 (+5), tied for second place with Brett Whaley of The Links at Northfork in Ramsey and four shots behind Dooley.
Thursday's low round belonged to Tim Peterson of Forest Hills Golf Club, who posted an even-par 72. Peterson jumped 13 spots to tie for fourth at 226 with Troy Johnson of Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove.
Dooley adds the 2007 MGA Mid-Amateur trophy to his 1999 MGA Amateur Championship title and his Player of the Year honor (also 1999).
Defending Mid-Am champion Todd Sinjem of Edinburgh USA in Brooklyn Park finished at 236.
Brad Holland, Baxter shot a 7-over-par Thursday for a 22-over-par 237. He finished tied for 22nd. Shawn Chambers of Pequot Lakes shot 4-over-par at the Classic to finish tied for 31st with a 238.
R.J. Smiley of Hardwoods Golf Course in Mille Lacs finished with a three-round 240 to tie for 43rd. He shot 6-over-par 78 Thursday.
