Nile F. Olson, age 91, resident of Long Lake Township, died Sept. 4, 2004, at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Viola Center, Iowa, to Clark and Laura (Rute) Olson. He married Loretta Gosch on Nov. 8, 1941, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He has been a resident of Long Lake Township since 1940. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a town constable of Long Lake Township for 20 years and a member of Long Lake Gun Club. He did custom work for farmers, custom combining, sheared sheep for area farmers since 1940, an estimated 35,000 head of sheep in that time. He played amateur and semi-professional basketball including a game against the Harlem Globetrotters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
Survivors include a son, Franklin (Clarissa) Olson, Brainerd; daughters Dee (Randy) Hall, Park City, Mont., and Christine (James) Tatro, Pierz; grandchildren Rick, Brad, Tonia, Paula, Tina, Cory, Jenny and Deanna; great-grandchildren Jantzen, Sierra, Emily and Katlyn; and brother Dale Olson, Milford, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by wife Loretta, parents Clark and Laura Olson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with the Rev. Mark Kleckner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation times are from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
