The Shrine Oriental Band of Brainerd recently attended the Midwest Shrine Association Summer Session at Regina, Saskatchewan. The band won the Executive Council Award Trophy in competition with nine other bands.
30 years ago (1972)
Two touchdowns within a four-minute span late in the fourth quarter erased the Brainerd High School Warriors fruitless efforts through the middle two cantoes and brought an 18-14 triumph over the beefy Duluth Central Trojans.
40 years ago (1962)
The Black Hills Passion Play, sponsored in Brainerd by the Lions Club, will be on stage at Tornstrom Auditorium for the first time Sept. 22. Profits from the venture will go toward the Lions Club youth projects in the community.
60 years ago (1942)
Sixteen messengers of the Brainerd Civilian Defense organization are to be chosen tonight to serve defense officials during the test blackout here the night of Wednesday, Sept. 9.
80 years ago (1922)
The meeting of the Brainerd Lions Club Wednesday was of special importance because of the election of officers. The new heads at the helm for the coming year are: President, Dr. W. A. Erickson; Secretary, I.C. Strout; Treasurer, Al Mraz, Tail Twister, John H. Krekelberg; Lion Tamer, O.J. Bouma.
