S-M boys, girls win at Eveleth-Gilbert

EVELETH -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals boys' and girls' cross country teams won the Eveleth-Gilbert Invitational Tuesday.

S-M coach Gene Mattila believed it was the first time in a few decades that both Cardinal teams took first in the same meet.

The Cardinals' Chad Brever was the boys' champion while teammates Jake Huebsch, David Reichel and Chris Anderson all placed in the top seven. It was the S-M boys' first victory of the season.

Hannah Landecker placed second, leading the Cardinals to victory. Liza Milles, Brittney Brenny, Steph Jares and Courtney Robinson all placed in the top 10.
