The oldest church building in Brainerd, the First Congregational Church located at Fifth and Juniper streets, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m.
30 years ago (1971)
An electrifying 60-yard touchdown gallop on the first play from scrimmage by Alan Wallace got new Coach Ken Gulbrandson's Brainerd High School Warriors off to a winning start at Staples, the 50-6 triumph being the most decisive in the series since Harvey Shew's powerful 1954 eleven won by the same margin.
40 years ago (1961)
Dedication of the new sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church here Sunday marks another step in the growth of Brainerd area religious facilities. Brainerd alone has seen the construction of three new church buildings as well as substantial additions.
60 years ago (1941)
A 6:30 Steak Dinner was held at Starrell's Cafe last night in compliment to Miss Janet Smith and Miss Mary Lou Carlson, both of whom are leaving for their respective schools.
80 years ago (1921)
However, the laugh began, it is a recognized fact that a few healthy "ha-has' form one of the best tonics imaginable. It gets plenty of fresh air into the lungs and generally tones one up. Also, it eases the nerves.
