The Family Medical Center Gallery in Little Falls will host a new art show starting on the first of September. Artist Janis Gallagher Young is known for her creative work in watercolor and ink pen. Young's work will be on display through October at the Medical Center Gallery maintained by the Great River Arts Association.
Young comments that she visualizes portraits in everything she sees. She looks for textures, lights and darks, character, life and expressions. "I feel these make my artworks unique," Young said. Her work reflects her locality as many of her pieces have included northwood scenes and wildlife. Each piece however, still uniquely exhibits her own perspective. Young goes so far as to say, "There is a bit of myself in each brush stroke."
According to Young, there has never been a time when she has not been interested in art. She started drawing and painting at a very early age. Now, when she's not working on her art, she is an optician at the Crosby Eye Clinic. She and husband, Mark, also own the Pine Crest Resort and Campground near Merrifield on Bass Lake.
Young's artwork has been shown in Missouri, Oklahoma, and throughout Minnesota. It can be seen in the Family Medical Center Gallery, 811 S.E. Second St., Little Falls. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The gallery is open to the public and free of charge.
