No American G.I. worth his salt ever left a war without a few souvenirs. Trouble is, along with the Japanese flags and German bayonets they brought home enough grenades and mortar rounds to give extra work to Skip Rudquist, bomb disposal expert for the sheriff.

A 22-year-old Ft. Ripley man pleaded guilty today to a misdemeanor charge of carrying an uncased rifle in his car. The rifle was in the rear window. Officers are studying whether to charge him for possession of dynamite and blasting caps, also found in his car.
60 years ago (1950)
The stench of a sloppy garbage system reached the nostrils of the city council last night. Current garbage collectors at the meeting said they couldn't improve their equipment as they didn't make enough money. The council has proposed a municipal system.
80 years ago (1930)
C.C. Van Essen has purchased the Block Bowling Alleys, located in the New Elks Building. Van Essen announced that Earl DeRocher, well known local sportsman, would be the manager. Brunswick Corp. of Minneapolis is overhauling the alleys.
100 years ago (1910)
