Two drivers hurt after their vehicles collide
ONAMIA - Two drivers were injured after their vehicles collided head -on at 3:31 p.m. Friday on U.S. 169 in Mille Lacs County, reported the State Patrol.

FIRES
The Brainerd Fire Department responded to a few calls over the past few days beginning at 1:44 p.m. Thursday to Kiwanis Park in Brainerd, but they were canceled en route.

It needs to be said: before we add costly new programs (cap and trade, health care for everyone, internal civilian corps, etc.) we need to attend to problems at hand. We need to fix the following first:

VOX POP
It has come to our attention that some readers were offended by our explanation to a non-reader in this space Tuesday about Brainerd's water problems. While that may be water under the bridge, the Vox Pop Department of Reader Mollification apologizes and has suspended the offending departments for two days. The department also suggests that reading the Dispatch is a good way to satisfy a thirst for knowledge.

Let people improve our lakes
The good folks who live on Serpent Lake must be scratching their heads. After two years of volunteer work, in an effort to fight the expansion of invasive species in their lake, their petition for a lake improvement district was denied by the Crow Wing County Board. They had met every requirement the board had previously set before them and had secured the support of 64 percent of the property owners who saw the sense of paying $50 per year to protect their investment.

The Nation's weather
The big pattern change Saturday will come in the West as a strong low pressure system slams into the Northwest from the Gulf of Alaska. This will be a fairly strong storm for this time of year, producing the strongest precipitation along its cold front as it smashes into western Washington and Oregon. The Cascades are set to receive the majority of the action before the front weakens farther inland. The storm will also provide breezy conditions along with cooler temperatures later in the weekend.
