Don't ever forget the 9/11 attacks

On January 4, 2007, I walked into my office and began a life-long dream of providing service as your elected sheriff in Crow Wing County. This is truly a privilege and something that I take seriously and with the highest regard.

A promise I made was to provide you with the best law enforcement possible and offer you the best of what I have to give, as you deserve it. I also made a promise to my friends while attending the FBI academy in Quantico, Va. That was to never forget the men and women who died on Sept. 11, 2001, a tragic day for the United States of America.

Please take a moment and think about the firefighters, the law enforcement officers, the soldiers and the EMS personnel who entered into the areas that were on fire and collapsing. Many people were running out of the buildings as they were entering in. Think about the officers who give each day for us so we can go about our day and not live in fear. The EMS personnel who attempt to render aid when things seem quite fruitless. The firefighters who fight fires each day without the fear of injury or death and the soldiers who give each day fighting for our freedom.

Men and women who are proud to serve as I am proud to serve as well. Please never forget 9/11.

TODD DAHL is the Crow Wing County sheriff.
