Veterans planning memorial service

Posted: Monday, September 06, 2004

The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts will be holding a 9-11 memorial service at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 in front of the American Legion at 708 Front Street. The We Will Remember event is to commemorate victims of the attack on America three years ago, and U.S. military members killed in Iraq, Afghanistan and other fronts in war on terrorism.

Mayor James Wallin is scheduled to open the ceremony. The Legion and VFW Color Guards will present colors. Clayt Robinson will sing the National Anthem and close the service with "God Bless America". The flag will be lowered to half mast. Thirty seconds of silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Immediately following the Brainerd Fire Department will sound a siren for 30 seconds to salute their fallen brothers. A 21 Gun Salute will be by the American Legion and VFW, followed with Taps.

The event is open to the public. At the close of the service, coffee and rolls will be served at the Legion.
