Norman J. Odette, 84, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at his home in Brainerd, surrounded by family.
Norman was born on a farm in Ripley Township, Morrison County, to Wilfred and Cecilia Odette. He farmed in Ripley Township and served in the U.S. Army.
He was married to Catherine Roskop April 9, 1947, at St. Mathias Catholic Church. They moved to Brainerd and he operated a furnace cleaning business. He spent many years working at Northwest Paper Company (later Potlatch). He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He took much pride in maintaining his yard and home.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine; their children, David (Paulette) Odette, Anna Marie (Ted) Watkins, Mary (Richard) McKay, Paul (Barbara) Odette and Patrick (Lynn) Odette; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family requests memorials go to St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School, Brainerd, Minn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery will follow the Mass with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard. Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd on Monday, Sept. 7, from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Tuesday the hour before the Mass.
