A Certified Food Manager course will meet Sept. 24 and 29 and Oct. 1 in the Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd.
Certification is required in most Minnesota food establishments. The class meets 5 to 9 p.m. with instructor Colette Pohlkamp.

Vehicle inspector re-certification class set
A commercial vehicle inspector re-certification class will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at the Business and Industry Center on the Central Lakes College campus in Brainerd.
The class fee is $80, including a $10-per-student fee required by the state and all course materials. Instructor is Douglas Brown of the Minnesota State Patrol.

Ride for the Mind donates to Horizon Health
Organizers of the 2009 Alzheimer's Motorcycle Ride for the Mind presented Horizon Health, Pierz, with a check for $3,000 from some of the proceeds of their recent charity fundraising event.
Leadership LindyLand raised money, donations
LITTLE FALLS -The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce's Leadership LindyLand 2008-2009 Community Service project - Project Another Day - raised money and donations for first response kits to help individuals or family affected by either a natural disaster or accident.
The kits contained a pair of work gloves, flash lights, gift certificates, personal items, blankets and much more. Chamber Bucks where purchased with extra proceeds and given to Gregg Valentine, Morrison County Chaplin for proper distribution.
Deborah Schey Salon raises funds
On Aug. 26, the Deborah Schey Salon provided a Cut-A-Thon to raise money for its memory walk team and raised more than $1,500, which will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association.
The salon's team includes Pam Wachholz, Sue Lauer, Dorothy Setterholm and Deborah Schey.
Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union gains award
Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union, with offices in Baxter and Brainerd, took home first place honors in the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award program for credit unions.
This social responsibility recognition awards program, sponsored by the Minnesota Credit Union Network and the Credit Union National Association, honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities.
Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union's 2009 entry placed on the state level in August and has been forwarded to the national competition where it will compete with other credit unions from across the country in September.
The program is an ongoing community initiative called Mid-Minnesota Education Network. The network offers free learning and enrichment opportunities within MMFCU's branch communities through workshops such as AARP Safe Driver, Investment Strategies, Identity Theft and Budgeting. The network also provides outreach staff for classroom and small group speakers.
