Five lawyers are running for district judge. What distinguishes the candidates is the effort they are making to meet voters and how much money they are spending. David Harrington is not spending the most, but he is easily working the hardest.
I support David Harrington for District Judge.
Olson should apologize
For those of you who were unfortunate (fortunate?) enough to miss Tuesday's Brainerd city council meeting, I will fill you in. Bob Olson chose to monopolize the session by attacking almost every member of the council. He viciously threw out personal blows without any regard to human feelings. He belittled and degraded his fellow councilpersons to publicly humiliate them. This type of behavior does not have any business in a council meeting, and it is just another example of Mr. Olson creating controversy to put himself in the spotlight.
Now, not only did he attack his fellow councilpersons, but he callously insulted a fine, hardworking, Dispatch journalist, Matt Erickson. I felt like I was watching Jerry Springer, not a council meeting. It was a disrespect to our entire city, the council members, our paper, our city staff and us, the citizens. Mr. Olson owes us all a public apology, and I call on him to do so.
Also, Mr. Olson needs to start fulfilling his elected duty by acting in a positive, productive manner. He needs to work with his fellow councilpersons to create a greater community. Mr. Olson says that he is "for the people." If that is true then he should be able to work with the people on our behalf rather than causing controversy and chaos. If he is unable to control himself, then he must go back to grade school to learn "there is no I in team;" "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all;" and "A little kindness goes a long way."
The other council members deserve more than Tuesday's fiasco, and we the citizens deserve more than this. It is time for Mr. Olson to shape up, or do us all a favor and ship out.
