20 years ago (1982)

Brainerd City Council members gave their preliminary OK for the construction of 14 townhouse units near Spruce Drive in south Brainerd.

30 years ago (1972)

The American Red Cross ditty bag program is in full swing here with the Crow Wing County Chapter preparing a quota of 55 bags this year. Mrs. Wayne Curtis is ditty bag chairman.

40 years ago (1962)

Brainerd has $610,000 worth of projects ready for work if federal funds are made available through a public works project plan which has passed in the House of Representatives.

60 years ago (1942)

Capt. Ben Taylor, who has been in command of the Brainerd Headquarters Company of the Minnesota Home Guards, has been transferred to heavy duty at Aberdeen, Md.

80 years ago (1922)

Harry Carlson complains that the strike situation in Brainerd is so crippling to the railroads that his little B&O train in the clothing store window is unable to get out of town with its load of straw hats now out of season.

100 years ago (1902)

Schlanges Cigar Store in east Brainerd was also represented in the parade. A cigar measuring about 10 feet long was loaded on a small truck.
