Fire destroyed a house and two garages Wednesday in Platte Lake Township in southern Crow Wing County.
Pierz Fire Chief Greg Fuhrman said his department was called out about 2:45 p.m. for a garage fire. Upon arrival the Pierz firefighters found two garages burned to the ground and the split-level house, owned by Roy Hughes, engulfed in flames.
The Brainerd Fire Department was called for mutual aid.
About five hours after the initial call, firefighters cleared the scene, Fuhrman said.
The is believed to have been started accidentally, Fuhrman said, from a spark from a cutting torch.
The Brainerd Fire Department responded to what turned out to be two false alarms Wednesday at the North Star Apartments, 410 E. River Road.
The alarms were reported at 11:08 a.m. and 7:27 p.m.
The cause of the alarm is unknown.
