Fix the walk signals

Posted: Saturday, September 04, 2010

There's such a thing as vehicular homicide. I was almost hit crossing the street by Coco Moon by an oncoming small, white SUV turning from the intersection at the lawyers' office late Wednesday afternoon. Minnesota law says pedestrians have the right away and I did push the button for the walk signal but the walk signals aren't long enough for the traffic lights and you have to be a marathon runner-plus to cross the street. Brainerd really needs to do something with these walk signals and the police need to reinforce the pedestrian laws.

Woman hid chewing gum

To the woman that was at the Baxter Walmart store this past Saturday morning (8/28/2010) visiting with the Walmart employee in the craft department: Later my husband and I were behind you walking down an aisle near housewares. We watched you take that wad of chewed chewing gum out of your mouth and stick it on a shelf. That was a disgusting thing you did. You know who you are. Shame on you. I am just wondering how you would like to have people stick wads of chewed gum on something of yours? You are not a kid.

A job well done

I do not live on Ahrens Hill but I do drive and have driven on Riverside Drive for the last 20-plus years every day on my way to my business and home. An observation on the other day's criticism by a resident about how bad the reconstruction is and the "many" trees were removed. My observation is this: It was a very dangerous road in sorry need of repair. My compliments to the engineers and construction company for a job very well done. It is a beautiful road and I tried very hard to see the complaints made.

ATVs and new trails

The registered numbers of ATVs have gone up, but saying they all want and need new trails to ride on is like saying the number registered cars is proof of the need for more race tracks like BIR. Most ATVs are owned by people for use around their property, fishing or hunting, not for pounding trails.

He'd pay for a golf course

What a great letter yesterday about the vacant golf course. This was a great golf course that was taken over by corporate greed. The idea of a nine-hole golf course and park would help our area now and the future generations to come. If the cities of Brainerd/Baxter made a lower offer the current owners might be inclined to part with the property. The idea of the great business complex seems to draw zero interest. I wouldn't mind paying a little more in property tax over 20 years for a golf course and park.

No apologies are needed

Restoring honor. What a great idea. I'd like to know who's restoring honor in this country. It certainly isn't Barack Obama, who is bowing to leaders of other countries and apologizing for what the United States has done over the years. We need to apologize for nothing ... with all the people in the world we have helped and getting nothing in return. I'm glad to be an American but not because of Barack Obama.

The drug this time is money

It's almost pathetic watching local and state officials pandering over more federal dollars and more federal control when actually all it was a payoff to the unions from the president. It has nothing to do with education and everything to do with control. And many, many officials can look in the mirror and call yourself junkies because all you have to do is wave a federal dollar in front of your nose and it's just like a drug.

You've got to be kidding

Restoring honor. You've got to be kidding. After two years of Obama he's done more harm to our country than anybody in history. He surrounded himself with self-described socialists and communists and you call it restoring honor. I can't wait for the day we can unelect him. We can't stand anymore of his hope and change.

No more trails

Fourteen people died in ATV accidents in Minnesota in 2009 and 16 have died so far in 2010. More trails is not the answer.
