Brainerd School Board to meet Tuesday in special meeting

The Brainerd School Board will meet in a special session at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the board room at Washington Educational Services Building.

Agenda items include a negotiations update and any other such business that may properly come before the board.

Pequot Lakes woman wins $25,000

Karen Barnes of Pequot Lakes won $25,000 by playing the Minnesota State Lottery's Cash and Concerts scratch game. Barnes claimed the prize on Aug. 23, 2010. The winning ticket was purchased at Holiday, 4917 County Road 77, in Nisswa.

Public transit not available on Labor Day

Brainerd and Crow Wing Public Transit (Dial-A-Ride) will not be operating Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The third annual Senior Celebration planned Sept. 14 in Walker

WALKER - The third annual Senior Celebration, a fun and informative event for area baby boomers and seniors, will be 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 14 at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker.

The theme of "Are You In Your Right Mind?" proposes to focus on the aging brain with discussion on just what is a healthy brain, how to "age proof" your mind and discover simple things you can do to keep your mind active.

Guest speakers Krisie Charnley of Horizon Health Faith in Action, and Tammy Jopp of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, will discuss the difference between the normal brain, the aging brain and signs of dementia and other brain diseases.

The Senior Celebration is sponsored by a collaborative group of Cass County senior providers including Cass County Health, Human and Veterans Services, Lutheran Social Service, Central Minnesota Council on Aging, Faith in Action for Cass County, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Golden Living Center, Hackensack Senior Class Assisted Living, and May Creek Assisted Living Campus.
