Danielson joins Extension as AmeriCorps Promise Fellow
Ann Danielson joined the University of Minnesota Extension this month as an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow in 4-H Youth Development.
She will be working with students in two to three schools in Crow Wing County. Her role will be to start afterschool 4-H clubs that support youths' homework needs with homework mentors, involve young people in civic engagement activities and other 4-H events and support the work of the Crow Wing County Youth Wellness Initiative and its Youth Council. Danielson is also attending college part time at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. She is originally from the Brainerd-Baxter area.
Lakewood adds pain management to specialties
STAPLES - Dr. Timothy Harley Olson, pain management physician, joined Lakewood Health System as its newest collaborating specialist.
Olson practices from the Center for Pain Management in Sartell. His bachelor of science was earned at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. in 1993. In 2000, he received his doctorate at the University of Minnesota, where he also earned his doctor of medicine in 2002. Olson's fellowship in pain medicine was completed with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Hautala speaks at Community Action conference
BREEZY POINT - Aaron W. Hautala, creative director and owner of RedHouseMedia, recently spoke at the Community Action Management Information System conference at Breezy Point Resort.
CAMIS is a networking group that strives to improve management information systems in Minnesota's Community Action agencies by offering training, development and funding opportunities.
Hautala spoke to the group about the importance of managing small details in advertising and how those details can add up, increasing brand consistency and awareness, leading to better recognition and increased bottom lines for businesses.
Hautala and RedHouseMedia have experience in working with Community Action organizations locally, including TCC.
Gettelman named district sales manager for magazines
Linda Gettelman was recently named a district sales manager with Lake and Home Magazine.
Gettelman will support a team of advertising consultants throughout Minnesota utilizing the Lake and Home business model process. Gettelman will continue as an advertising consultant in the Brainerd lakes area.

Korzeniowski is LF employee of the month
LITTLE FALLS - Jan Korzeniowski, employed by St. Gabriel's Hospital, is the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce September Employee of the Month.
Korzeniowski has been with St. Gabriel's Hospital for 20 years and is a diabetes educator, registered dietitian. Her supervisor Lisa Hanowski said Korzeniowski is "an outstanding and energetic employee" and an asset to the organization through her advocacy efforts. Korzeniowski has with a passion for community and awareness of healthy living.

MMBA celebrates 30th anniversary
The Mid-Minnesota Builders Association recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The event was hosted by Tom Steiger, a charter member at Floor to Ceiling, Baxter. The event was attended by more than 200 people who were treated to a barbecue dinner. Mid-Minnesota Builders Association was founded on April 25, 1980 by 13 charter members.

Real Estate 1 to starts Sept. 20 at CLC
Real Estate 1, a three-course series required for obtaining the Minnesota Real Estate license, is offered from 6-10 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays Sept. 20-Oct. 7 at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
The course is on the principles of real estate series subjects include listings, contracts, agencies, purchase agreements, and financing.

A 'Serving It Safe' review course is planned from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd.
This course provides four hours of continuing education for certified food managers, addresssing food sanitation and safety, emerging trends in food preparation, handling sanitation and prevention of food-borne illness.

CLC plans Situational Leadership workshop
Situational Leadership, laying the groundwork for effective teams and create clear vision in a productive environment, will be the topic for a workshop from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at the Business and Industry Center of the Central Lakes College Brainerd campus.
Instructor Jean Mershon will review the stages of team development and leadership styles appropriate to each stage as well as leadership skills of goal setting, coaching, performance evaluation, active listening, feedback, and proactive problem solving.

Vehicle inspector recertification class set
A commercial vehicle inspector recertification class is planned from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at the Business and Industry Center on the Central Lakes College campus in Brainerd.
The State of Minnesota requires that all commercial vehicles or combination of vehicles more than 26,000 pounds are to be placarded and registered in Minnesota, display a valid safety inspection decal issued by an inspector certified by the Commissioner of Public Safety, or carry proof that the vehicle is in interstate commerce and a certificate of compliance has been issued. Inspections may only be performed by a person who is not an employee of the Department of Public Safety or Transportation and must be certified by the Commissioner of Public Safety.
All certified Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Inspectors must be recertified every two years if they wish to continue as certified inspectors. You cannot attend the recertification class if: Your certification has been expired for more than six months; if your certification is under revocation; if you have already attended and failed a recertification class.
The class fee is $90, including a $10-per-student fee required by the state and all course materials. Instructor is Douglas Brown of the Minnesota State Patrol.
