Local foods dinner planned

NISSWA - Eating locally grown food is becoming increasingly important. Fuel consumption and shipping costs, food-borne diseases and supporting local growers are just a few reasons to eat food produced close to where we live.

With these things in mind, a community local foods dinner will be held 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. As much as possible, all foods will be made from locally grown products. The main dish will be buffalo stew.

In addition to the meal there will be a special presentation on how our food system is hurting us and hurting our earth entitled "Food Matters: Eating as a Moral Act" by Jerry Raedeke, local artist, pastor, and conservationist. He will also address issues such as the foods we eat, how these foods are produced and how all of this affects God's creation.
