The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport will hold an open house from 1:30-4 p.m. on Sept. 12 to highlight the $27 million of recently completed projects at the airport.
A historic World War II aircraft, the B-25 "Miss Mitchell", will land at the airport as part of the celebration and for a $395 fee will be available for rides and photographs. Reservations are being taken for a ride in the B25. For more information call Steve Arhart of Airmotive Enterprises at 829-3398.
Airplanes rides are also available in a Cessna 172 Skyhawk for $60 for two people for a half hour flight during the open house, plus the public will be able to see a variety of airplanes and helicopters.
Airport businesses will have information kiosks and airport equipment will be on display. Light refreshments will be served.
The $27 million in construction projects were financed primarily through the Federal Aviation Administration, with additional money provided by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. About 7 percent was paid for by local dollars.
Delta/Mesaba Connection operates three daily flights in and out of Brainerd. In addition to commercial traffic, general aviation including corporate, private, medical, military and cargo flights account for about 37,000 landings and take-offs per year.
