Fishing report

By Outdoor News

BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA

The north and south ends of Gull Lake are giving up walleyes in 16 to 32 feet, mainly on Lindy Rigs and redtails. Minnows also are turning a few walleyes during the evening hours in 14 to 26 feet at Round Lake and North Long Lake. Northern pike are biting along with the walleyes and bass continue to hit on the deep weedlines and bars of most lakes. Look for sunfish in the shallow weeds of North Long, Pelican Lake, and Cullen Lake.

LAKE MILLE LACS

EAST - Rocks remain the best option for walleyes during the day in 18 to 22 feet or at night in eight to 15 feet. Crankbaits or a slip bobber/leech combination are working best. Muskie action is limited, a few good-sized perch have shown up in the bays, and smallmouth bass are hitting on the rocks.

WEST - Slip bobbers and leeches continue to turn some walleyes on the mud flats at night. Sucker minnows or crankbaits are triggering northern pike on the weedlines of St. Alban's Bay. Look for perch in the bays or on deep rocks and smallmouth bass action remains strong on the rocks. Muskie anglers are reporting a tough bite.

CROSBY AREA

Crankbaits are producing walleyes after dark in eight feet on the reefs and bars around Slug Island on Pelican Lake. The 12-foot holes on the Mississippi River also have given up walleyes. Look to Rabbit Lake and Serpent Lake with crankbaits or plastics for bass. The 13- foot weedline on Horseshoe Lake is kicking out bluegills, pike, and bass. The best northern pike action is coming off the Mississippi River between Little Rabbit Lake and Rice Lake or on the Sagamore Pit.

CASS LAKE AREA

Minnows and leeches are producing walleyes in 25 feet along East Cedar Bar and Buck's Bar on Cass Lake. The evening bite with Shad Raps also remains good on Cass in six to eight feet on the north side of Star Island, O'Neal's Point, and North Cedar Bar. On Wolf Lake, spinners and minnows are triggering walleyes along the weedlines. The best perch action is being found on the seven- to nine-foot sand flats and bluegills are being caught on Boomerang Bar in Allen's Bay of Cass. Muskie action is slow, but Lake Andrusia started kicking out pike.

LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH

The southeast corner of the lake has been producing limits of walleyes. Look to Bena Bar, Big Muskie Bar, Little Stoney Point, and the shoreline breaks with Lindy Rigs and/or leeches and crawlers. The west-side points and weedlines also are giving up walleyes and northern pike continue to be taken along with the walleyes in most areas. The best perch reports continue to come off the rocks near Raven's Point.

LEECH LAKE AREA

Topwater baits have started producing muskies on the weedlines and rocks around Pipe Island, Pelican Reef, and in Portage Bay. During the day, jigs and minnows are the best walleye option in 10 to 14 feet near Sand Point, Goose Flats, and Big and Little Hardwood islands. Crankbaits continue to work best during the evening hours in these areas. Minnows are the ticket for big walleyes on the Walker Bay humps in 25 to 30 feet.
