NISSWA -- For the past 14 years, the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce has recognized an outstanding individual for contributions to the community.
The chamber is currently accepting names for the 2002 Nisswa Citizen of the Year. The nominee does not have to be a business person, a Nisswa chamber member, or a citizen of Nisswa. Summer residents do qualify for nomination. Nominees should be a humble servant whose energies are spent for the betterment of the community and not for personal gain, according to the chamber. The 2002 Nisswa Citizen of the Year will be announced during the Oct. 8 Fall Chamber Dinner at Iven's On The Bay restaurant.
Previous Nisswa Citizens of the Year include: Ingrid Anderson, 2001; Harold Kraus, 2000; Jerry and Ruth Peltier, 1999; Mark Ronnei, 1998; Bernice Hinkie, 1997; Bob Sheplee, 1996; Terry McGaughey, 1995; Jack Warden, 1994; Marv Koep, 1993; Howard Wallentine, 1992; Bob Hurst, 1991; Dick Cook, 1990; Jim Dullum, 1989; Mike Thurlow, 1988.
All nominations must be in writing and received by the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce no later than Sept. 25. Nisswa Area Women of Today plan show
NISSWA -- There will be three ways to win prizes at the Nisswa Area Women of Today's 17th annual fashion show "An Evening in Paradise," Oct. 15 that Breezy Point Resort.
Raffle tickets will sell for $1 each. Those who buy tickets need not be present to win. The five grand prizes are a $300 shopping spree donated by Schaefer's Foods; a full-size cedar log bed, donated By Whalen Woods; a two-night getaway, donated By Quarterdeck on Gull; a two-night getaway, donated By Breezy Point Resort; a golf foursome with cart at the Pines, donated by Grand View Lodge.
