BAXTER -- A fourth candidate, Troy Gratke, joined the race for two Baxter City Council seats.
Gratke, 30, is a civil engineering tech for the Minnesota Department of Transportation office in Baxter. He's worked out of that office for three years and has lived in Baxter for 11/2 years. He's also worked as a civil engineering tech for a private firm and for Kanabec and Mille Lacs counties. Gratke's work experience also includes being an intern with the DNR and working on the Paul Bunyan Trail.
He'd like to find a new plan to fund future city assessments, streamline the city's building permit process, improve the city's parks and recreation programs and work on on what he called existing problems and concerns that never get solved or addressed.
"People need to be heard," he said. "Everyone has a voice. I get along with people. I care to listen to them and I'll fight for them."
He is Kinship Partner and has a background in 4-H.
Filings close Sept. 10.
