WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) -- Wind-driven flames forced evacuations in a small, wooded development west of Glacier National Park, in the latest setback for firefighters battling the persistent fire.
Fire commanders grounded their air attack and pulled firefighters off the lines Monday when gusts of around 35 mph were reported. Officials expected lighter wind Tuesday.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Pauline Kael was among the most influential film critics of the 20th century, helping to establish the reputations of such filmmakers as Martin Scorsese, Robert Altman and Steven Spielberg from her lofty perch at The New Yorker.
Kael died at her home in Great Barrington, Mass., on Monday after a battle with Parkinson's disease. She was 82.
In her 38-year career, Kael was a consistent defender of artistic creativity, subtlety and refined craftsmanship -- qualities she worried were endangered
