20 years ago (1990)

A much-discussed lack of space at Franklin Junior High and Washington Middle Schools materialized on opening day of school. Franklin reported attendance of 955, an 8.9 percent increase over last year. Washington was up by 8 percent for the second year.

30 years ago (1980)

Deciding that the months-long strike at Larco Manufacturing was "not relevant" to the issue at hand, the Brainerd City Council voted 6-1 to give preliminary approval to a $1.1 million industrial development bond for the firm to expand here.

40 years ago (1970)

60 years ago (1950)

The Spotlite night club in Nisswa and the Jenkins municipal liquor store were burglarized early this morning. Thieves broke the front door at the liquor store, getting $13 and four quarts of whiskey. Don Sande, Spotlite manager, said burglars there got $300 to $400.

80 years ago (1930)

Without comment the city council accepted the street committee's recommendation that gas pump licenses remain at $25 each. Dealers had asked that the fee for second pumps and more be at $5. In other action, the council was urged to stop the burning at the city dump.

100 years ago (1910)

The team of Joseph Prosser, a farmer, ran head-on into the Johnson Bros. bakery wagon this afternoon. The bakery wagon was standing peacefully in front of the bakery and suddenly there was a tangled mass of horses, harness, bread and oil cans.
