The summer ends at Brainerd International Raceway with muscle cars slugging it out on the drag strip, a classic car show, live music and more during the 21st annual Coca Cola Muscle Car Shootout Friday through Sunday.
The event is also the grand finale for BIR's new Outlaw Drag Racing Series, a three-race competition for racers in the Outlaw, Pro Outlaw, King Street and Real Street classes. Racers have earned series points in the two previous races (Index Class Eliminator and Show & Go) and have one last crack at a track championship.
More than 400 drag racers from throughout the Midwest and Canada are expected for the summer's last fling. Outlaw classes feature wheel-standing racing where cars cover the quarter mile in 6-7 seconds at more than 200 mph.
The Muscle Car Shootout will also include live music Saturday night by Rhino, activities for fans of all ages and a classic car show where cars be judged in different classes. Fans can vote for their favorite as well, with the top vote-getter receiving the People's Choice Award.
"The Muscle Car Shootout is an annual favorite of a lot of our fans," BIR owner Jed Copham said. "With on-site camping available, we get a lot of families that make this their last family vacation for the summer. There's a lot to see and do on-site and some fantastic racing on the track. With the Outlaw Series wrapping up, fans are sure to see some intense racing."
