James E. Lick, age 51, of Brainerd, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church in Brainerd with Maj. Jeff Strickler officiating. Friends may visit at the church during the hour prior to services. Interment with full military honors will follow at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls.
James Everett Lick was born April 30, 1957, in Brainerd to Everett and Frances (Johnson) Lick. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy, where he served as an electrician fireman aboard the USS Piedmont. He was united in marriage to Debra Williams in Brainerd on June 3, 1978. Jim worked doing construction labor for 20 years and then as a Forty-Niner heavy equipment operator for 12 years. His family was very important to him and he especially loved being "Grandpa" for the past few years.

James is survived by Debra, his loving wife of 30 years; his mother, Frances Lick, of Brainerd; his children, Justin (Jasmine Winkelman) Lick, of Brainerd, David (Erin) Lick, of Brainerd, Erin (Scott) Johnston, of Brainerd, and Alisha (William Denny) Lick, of Brainerd; his grandchildren, Madyson and Ashton Lick and Cayden Winkelman; and his sisters, Janice (Jim) Kerley, of Arizona, and Jeanie (Doug) Collins, of Aitkin. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Lick; and a grandson, Landon Johnston. Services entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
