The Brainerd City Council decided it ought to do a little weeding along the city main streets. If everybody does their own little thing, then it would really make a beautiful town.

Northern League Class C champs in a tournament held at Alexandria is this quartet of Brainerd Ladies Golf Association members: Alicia Hulsether, Mary Walls, Ike Smedly and Ella Brown.

40 years ago (1968)

Donnybrooke Speedway and the Minnesota Street Rod Association announced that Brainerd has been chosen as the site for the first MSRA Convention Sept. 7 and 8. Included in the activities will be a parade of cars which will wind through the streets of Brainerd.

60 years ago (1948)

Frank and Gene Wright, having emerged victorious from their semifinal matches, will face each other in a 36-hole duel at the Brainerd golf course tomorrow to decide the 1948 club championship.

80 years ago (1928)

The 1928-29 school year for Brainerd opened this morning with 1,968 pupils enrolled up to noon. Approximately 2,000 students will be enrolled in the public grade schools and high schools by tomorrow.

100 years ago (1908)

It is very encouraging to see the improvement in things that make for the city's beauty so evident in Brainerd this year. The work of curbing is being pushed in many sections of the city with splendid effect.
