PEQUOT LAKES -- Manford Johnson, 77, Pequot Lakes, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Minneapolis to Ernest and Clara (Nyseth) Johnson. He graduated from South High School in Minneapolis and then attended two years at the University of Minnesota. He entered the Army during World War II. After his discharge, he married Mary Gates on Sept. 20, 1947, in Plymouth. He was a meat cutter in Minneapolis for 30 years. They retired in 1984 and moved to Rock Lake, north of Pillager. He was a member of the Pillager Lions Club and Gull Lake Drifters Snowmobile Club.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Carol Erikson, St. Cloud, JoAnne Zajac, Maple Grove, Sue Johnson, Ogilvie, and Barbara Johnson, Champlin; a son, Ronald Johnson, Annandale; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Allan, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with the Rev. Bill Ingvolstad officiating.
Friends may call an hour before services Thursday at the funeral chapel.
