Brainerd jumps out with win

BEMIDJI - Sarah Dens won the 200- and 100-yard freestyles and helped the the 400 freestyle relay to first as the Brainerd Warriors defeated the Bemidji Lumberjacks 107-79 Tuesday in the season opener.

"Sarah Dens had a fantastic meet," said Warrior head coach Dan Anderson. "She was right were she left off last year in her 200 and 100 frees so we're pleased with that. Laura Goll and Steph Hansen in the 500 free had two outstanding swims and then Siri Smith in the backstroke had a nice start with her 1:05."

Brainerd's 200 medley relay, Katy Etterman in diving and Alex Erickson in the 100 butterfly also captured victories.

"It was our first meet of the year and we really had a lot of rust," said Anderson. "We have a lot of work to do."
