Pernina (Nina) Claire Burke, born to Edward L. and Pernina (Oliver) Burke, Aug. 8, 1956, St. Cloud, Minn. Survivors: Husband, Arlen Damlo; and mother, Pernina Burke, both of Hackensack; sisters, Marionne (Koko) Croake, Pennsylvania, Peggy Burke, of New Hope; brothers, Perry (Juliana), St. Louis, Mo., Michael, Houston, Texas, and Patrick, St. Cloud; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and her six beloved cats. Nina died Aug. 30, 2009, at her home alongside Boy River near Hackensack, her beloved husband Arlen at her side, after losing a valiant battle against an aggressive cancer. In the Walker-Hackensack area she was known not only for her participation in everything musical, but also for her beautiful smile and willingness to help out where needed. Her musical career began at the age of nine, playing organ at St. Cloud Cathedral and grew to include a European tour with the St. Cloud State University Jazz Band during her college days. Accompanist, piano teacher, piano tuner, musical director for school plays and community productions, solo entertainer, or part of a dance combo, Nina's life was music and sharing the joy of music. A memorial service to celebrate Nina's life will be held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker with visitation one hour prior to service.
