Jay Ramig is going so far south this winter, he's expecting it to be the coldest of his life. Ramig sold his transmission repair business to Mike Wetzel and will spend a year working for General Electric at McMurdo Sound in Antarctica.

Thirteen letter winners have returned to brighten the outlook of Brainerd girls swimming coach Willy Severson as his team prepares to host Moorhead in the season opener. The girls finished 9-3 in dual meets last year, and finished eighth at state.

(Photo) Don Heidt of Breezy Point captured the championship of the 24th Annual Breezy Point Invitational Golf Tournament with a 2 and 1 victory over young Mile Spielmann of Brainerd. Heidt drained a 14-foot birdie putt on the 17th for the win.

The Minneapolis Bridge Company was awarded the contract for a new bridge at the Gull Lake narrows, four and one-half miles southwest of Nisswa on state aid road No. 15. The bid was $38,000 with construction to start immediately, now that tourism has slowed.
80 years ago (1929)
Partial solution of major robberies in the northwest was believed near today with the slaying of one bandit and wounding of another in an attempted $8,000 robbery in Minneapolis. The wounded bandit will be questioned in the Pequot bank heist.
