Litchfield overwhelms Smith, Staples-Motley

LITCHFIELD -- Joe Smith rushed for 113 yards and passed for 101 as the Staples-Motley Cardinals opened their football season Thursday with a 42-22 loss to Litchfield.

Eric Huber scored on a touchdown pass from Smith, who also ran for a 4-yard score. Caleb Nurnberger scored the other Cardinals touchdown on a 4-yard run.

Litchfield's Daren Sangren and Josh Rose each rushed for more than 100 yards. Rose scored three touchdowns and Sangren two. Kent Johnson passed for 124 Litchfield yards and two scores.
