New faces win Saturday
Grandstands were filled to capacity Saturday night as 133 cars kicked off the Mighty Ax Nationals at North Central Speedway.
Feature winners received a gold-plated ax with victory lane seeing a few new faces as Jack Peterson, Monte Hall and George Mattson picked up their first NCS feature wins in their respective classes.
The Pure Stock division got the feature part of the program rolling as Jack Peterson paced the field to collect the A feature trophy. Just before halfway, a red flag was waved when Phillip Schmitz experienced a scary moment, spinning underneath the flagman's stand. Phillip walked away from the crash, but the front-end-loader was called out to remove his car from the track.
In the B feature, Mitch Lowe led flag to flag over Trevor Shaw to take home the hardware.
Polesitter George Mattson maintained a two-car lead through six cautions to win his first Wissota Super Stock feature.
The Wissota Street Stock division was next as Jim Derosier led the opening lap of the feature. Mark Johnson grabbed the lead on the second lap and never looked back as he picked up the win.
Monte Hall dominated the Midwest Modified feature to take a trip to victory lane. Dick Peterson was the big mover of the race as he came from a 13th starting spot to record a second-place finish.
Polesitter Dave Mass paced the field of 19 in the Wissota Sprint feature. The-25 lap event saw a limited number of cautions as he avoided contact with a lap car during one of three cautions.
