Staples-Motley boys, girls finish fifth

MOORHEAD - The Staples-Motley Cardinals boys' and girls' team each earned a fifth-place finish at the Shocky Strand Invite Monday.

Gunner Johnson led the S-M boys with a time of 17:41.9 good for 10th place. First-place Lukas Gemar of Moorhead, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, had a time of 16:13.97.

In the girls' meet, the Cardinals placed two competitors in the top 10. Emma Pogreba finished sixth with a time of 16:02.9 and Kaytlin Roth was seventh at 16:07.5.

LF girls fifth, boys sixth

MILACA - Little Falls' Preston Zimny (17:25.4) and Ricky Devine (17:28.0) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in 5,000 meters to help the Flyer boys finish sixth in the 17-team Milaca Invite Monday.

Colt Severson was the top finisher for Crosby-Ironton with a time of 18:46.8 for 36th place.

On the girls' side, 18 teams ran 2,950 meters, with Manon Gammon-Deering of Little Falls the top area finisher with a time of 11:16.7, good for sixth place.

Top finisher for C-I was Lisa Borden with a time of 12:18.5 for 33rd place.
