LASTRUP -- Meldan Theodore Kapsner, 78, Lastrup, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Granite Township to Michael and Caroline (Wacker) Kapsner. He entered the Army during World War II serving in Europe in the Normandy Invasion. After his discharge, he married Matilda Becker on Nov. 1, 1950, in Egg Harbor City, N.J. They moved to Granite Township where they farmed until retirement in 1975, moving to Lastrup. He belonged to the American Legion of Pierz, VFW of Little Falls and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike, Pierz, and Mark, Augusta; two daughters, Maryann Knoll, Hastings, and Margery Gross, Sauk Rapids; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Virgil Kapsner, Redwood Falls, and Herbert Kapsner, Hastings; and six sisters, Alice Lange, Madison, S.D., Stella Cardinal, Hugo, Helen Dupont, Albertville, Florence Husnik, Circle Pines, Lorene Bauer, Elsworth, Wis., and Viola Bauer, Redwood Falls.
A daughter, Maureen, and two sisters, Rita Thomas and Gertrude Husnik, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church of Lastrup with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion of Pierz and the VFW of Little Falls.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Sunday, with parish prayers at 6 p.m., Christian Mothers rosary at 7:30 p.m., Pierz American Legion service at 8 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Office of the Dead at 8:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until services Monday at Brenny Funeral Home of Pierz.
