All of the Brainerd City Council incumbents have now filed for re-election but no challengers have surfaced yet. And in Baxter two of three council incumbents are in the race.
Filing Wednesday for the positions they currently serve in were Craig MacDonald in Baxter and Gene Goedker, a Brainerd at-large council member.
MacDonald, seeking his second four-year term, said today he'd like to finish ongoing projects before the city council. One of his priorities is to make sure money is spent wisely.
"It's hard to please everybody but you try to please the majority," he said.
MacDonald, the owner of MacDonald Construction, is the council's liaison with the Baxter Planning and Zoning Commission. He said his background in building and development is an asset during the city's period of rapid growth.
Goedker, a longtime real estate agent, has served two stints on the Brainerd council. He first served from January of 1972 until June of 1975. He rejoined the council in January of 1989 and has served since that time. He is chair of the Safety and Public Works Committee.
He could not be reached for comment today.
