Company A of the 367th Engineer Battalion, Brainerd received the "Best Company Award" for the second straight year during their recent two-week summer training session at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.

Ernest Palmer, 911 'O' Street N.E., a rural mail carrier on Rt. 5 for the past 42 years, retired. When Route 5 was first designated as a rural Brainerd delivery, Palmer made his deliveries often with a horse and buggy.

Brainerd pauses Monday from its regular chores to give a rousing celebration to its populace and visitors on Labor Day. With laboring classes forming the bulwark of its income, Brainerd is largely a laborers' city.

Dr. J.A. Thabes is having a large garage, bungalow style, built by G.W. Northrup. It measures 20 by 40 feet in size and will give storage to three cars.

Wm. Moore had a house raising on the 25th and did his duty handsomely by setting up a nice lunch and oh! horrors, a keg of harmless beer, but it's all right, Billy, do it some more.
