Mac Carkhuff, 1975-2005, born in Duluth, Minn., on March 22, 1975, to Martin Carkhuff (deceased July 21, 2005), and Nancy (Lueken) Carkhuff. At the age of 10 months his family moved back to the Brainerd area where Mac graduated from Brainerd High School in 1993. He received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Winona State University and a master's degree in criminal justice with honors from St. Cloud State University.
Mac's home at 9527 Hillside Drive, Champlin, Minn., was blessed with his pal, English bulldog, Gus.

He is survived by his grandmother, Betty Lueken; mother, Nancy (Lueken) Carkhuff; sister, Becki (Ed) Henagin; three nephews, Chase, Alex and Ethan; his betrothed, Suzie Olson; step-mother, Sherry Messerschmidt; brothers, Nate and Preston; special friends, Josh Van Drake, Karen Hall, Nicole Wander, Terry Thorkelson, Curly and Gwen Olson, and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, high school and college friends, motorcycling and snowmobiling friends and neighbors. Mac will be sorely missed by all he has known.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard (Dick) Lueken; grandparents, Ben and Norma Carkhuff; and his father, Martin Carkhuff (Messerschmidt).
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and the hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred and will be used for scholarships through Brainerd High School for students interested in criminal justice studies.
