Rain and thunderstorms will soak much of the East and central states, and portions of the West Saturday, while the Mid-Atlantic, Northern Plains and far Northwest stay dry.
High pressure will keep much of the Mid-Atlantic dry.
Warm, moist air will produce showers and thunderstorms in the Southeast, with the heaviest rain in the Deep South.
A cold front will carry strong storms to the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast. The storms will pack lightning, wind gusts to 60 mph, heavy downpours and the possibility of small hail.
A strong cold front will bring wet weather to much of the central and southern Plains. Most of the showers and thunderstorms will drench Kansas, Oklahoma, western Texas and southern portions of Missouri and Illinois. The strongest storms will contain winds over 60 mph, lightning and heavy downpours.
Warm, moist air will produce showers and thunderstorms in the western Gulf Coast, with the heaviest rain in eastern Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. The storms will include torrential downpours, winds to 40 mph and lightning.
High pressure keep the Northern Plains cool and dry.
More monsoonal moisture will produce showers and thunderstorms in the Rockies and Four Corners. The strongest storms will pack winds to 60 mph, lightning and heavy downpours.
High pressure will grip the far Northwest, producing sunny to partly cloudy skies, dry conditions and hot temperatures. Low clouds and fog may develop in coastal California.
Highs Saturday were forecast in the 40s and 50s in the Northern Plains, the Upper Midwest, Montana, Colorado and Wyoming; 50s and 60s in New England, the Middle Atlantic, California, Oregon and Washington; 60s and 70s in the Southeast, the central and southern Plains and the Interior West; 80s in Texas and Oklahoma; 80s and 90s in the Desert Southwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of 33 degrees in Cut Bank, Mont., to a high of 105 degrees in the Blythe, Calif.
