The reprinting of car advertisements from the 1950s through the 1970s may be featured on future auto pages, thanks to Steve Long of Brainerd.
Long gave The Dispatch more than 300 automobile magazines from 1955 to 1975. He said he purchased the magazines. By the way, they are in very good shape.
He also has collected several automobile brochures and is in search of Oldsmobile brochures now.
Wooden hero at NCMS
I have never felt so good for a stock car racer then Saturday night at North Central Motor Speedway. It had already been an awesome night watching the oldest racer, Wayne Wooden, hold off much younger racers and finish second in the Wissota Street Stock feature. Wooden is over 60.
But when the speedway's public address announcer Keith Moilanen gave him a bear hug when he was walking to the payoff what a sight. I mean this hug lasted for more than five seconds.
Wooden said he told the race winner, Shawn Wageman of Pine River, that he held off the rest of the field for him. Wageman won by several car lengths.
Garlits to race
"Big Daddy" Don Garlits officially announced he will participate in the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, at Indianapolis Raceway Park Wednesday through Monday.
At the controls of Gary Clapshaw's "The Spirit of Las Vegas" Top Fuel Dragster, Garlits hopes to attain his goal of clocking a 300 mph speed, as NHRA celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Clapshaw, who was set to drive at Indy next week, decided there was nothing bigger than giving Garlits a chance to attain this long-time goal.
Nicky Hayden aboard his Honda, who won at the Colonel's Brainerd International Raceway in July, won his won his third-straight AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship race at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., last Sunday.
It's the longest winning streak in the series so far this year. Kawasaki riders Eric Bostrom finished second and Doug Chandler finished third.
