Nelson leads Warriors

SARTELL - Joe Nelson scored two goals as the Brainerd Warriors boys' soccer team improved to 2-0 overall and in the Central Lakes Conference with Thursday's 3-1 victory over Sartell.

Nelson scored the first and only goal of the first half off a Chris Nathan assist in the 29th minute.

In the second half Brainerd added two more goals as Nelson scored again from a Gil Millette assist and Jake Williams scored with Zach Hoard assisting.

Brainerd goalkeeper Brian Sexton shut down the Sabres for most of the game. Sartell's only goal came on a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

"The players played well," Brainerd coach Cahil Collins said. "We are happy with our overall performance in that we pretty much controlled the game from the beginning."
