BARROWS -- The only way Dave Mass could have had a better night Saturday at North Central Speedway was if he won the Wissota Super Stock season points championship.
As it was, Mass won his third straight and sixth Wissota Modified feature at NCS en route to winning the class' points championship. He won his second Wissota Super Stock feature at NCS. He also collected clean sweeps in both classes by winning his heat races earlier (he started from the front row in both because the lineup was determined by season points). He came into the show the Modified points leader and No 2 in Super Stock.
Other feature winners were Mitch Lowe in Pure Stock, Cory Rosen in Wissota Street Stock, and John Thompson in Wissota Midwest Modified. Lowe also collected a clean sweep by winning his heat race.
Winning the other class points championships were Chris Thomsen in Pure Stock, Bobby Young in Street Stock, Troy Jordan in Midwest Modified and Tim Johnson in Super Stock. Jordan and Johnson defended their points titles.
Thompson's Midwest Modified victory was the night's most exciting. He passed polesitter Danny Vang, who led from the start, on the final lap. "He gave me just a little bit of room down on the bottom," Thompson said of his pass on turn two. "I just barely got my nose underneath and I was able to get underneath him."

The two did touch. "God, I hated that," Thompson said. "He kind of came down ... we were all fighting for the same spot."
The points battle in this class also was tense. Jordan led Mark Anderson by seven points at the start of the feature. Anderson was running fifth and Jordan was running 11th when Anderson's night ended.
He said the rear wheel of another racer's car hit his car's front right wheel which broke the tie rod. Anderson said in order for him to win the points title, he would have had to finish seven places ahead of Jordan.
The Super Stock feature followed with Mass starting in seventh. He was already in third before a caution four laps into the race. Johnson drove his car very low on turn four for a three-way battle for the lead. His daring move took out some other racers.
On the restart, Mass passed race-leader Dan Yaunick high on turns three and four. Johnson led Mass by 53 points before the feature.
In the Modified feature and finale, Mass, who started ninth, passed polesitter and race leader Craig Larson on the 10th lap.
Jim Chyba, who was 28 points behind Mass and second in points at feature time, finished sixth after starting third.
In the Street Stock feature, outside polesitter Wageman led from the start and for 17 of the 20 laps before losing. He and Rosen were side by side until Rosen made his winning pass inside of turn two. Young, who started in third, finished second.
"(Rosen) got just enough of a run off the top and came down underneath and then what are you going to do," Wageman, who said his car was loose, said.
Nathan House, No. 2 in points, trailed Young by 17 points entering the feature. House finished sixth.
Outside polesitter Lowe led the Pure Stock feature from start to finish. He passed polesitter Mike Smude high on turn two on the first lap to collect his third NCS feature victory this season. Smude ran in second from flag to flag.
Thomsen, who led Jack Peterson by only 11 points coming into the feature, finished seventh. Four laps into the race, Thomsen and Peterson were running fourth and seventh before Peterson's night ended when his engine overheated.
The speedway will host the fourth annual Mighty Ax Nationals Sept. 3-4. All five classes that raced weekly plus Sprint Cars will compete.
