The Crow Wing County Health Department will hold child and teen checkup clinics from 8:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, and Thursday, Sept. 27, in Brainerd. Checkups are by appointment only.
The child and teen checkup is a series of checkups for apparently well children and young adults in Crow Wing County from age 6 months through 20. The purpose of the checkup is to find health problems or deviations of growth and development and have them corrected before they become serious.
A full child and teen checkup includes hearing and vision testing, height and weight check, simple laboratory tests, a physical exam, a growth and development assessment, a nutrition review and immunizations.
The child and teen checkup is conducted by trained public health nurses at the Crow Wing County Health Department. The child and teen checkup assists the parent to promote the health of the child. If the screening reveals a health problem requiring further diagnosis or treatment, parents are notified and assistance is offered for scheduling appointments and transportation if needed. The child and teen checkup fee is based on the family's income. No one will be turned away because of lack of finances. Call Amy at (218) 824-1097 or toll free at (218) 724-1080 for an appointment or more information.
Crow Wing County Health Department also administers the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. The program provides nutrition education, referrals to medical providers and vouchers for specific foods for pregnant, post-partum and breast-feeding women, infants and children up to age 5. Clinics are held the second Friday of every month in Pequot Lakes, the first Wednesday, Thursday and following Friday of the month in Crosby, and several days in Brainerd.
The Crow Wing County WIC office is going through some changes starting in September. Participants who pick up at Crosby will now pick up at the RAPP Center in Crosby, located behind Riverwood International Manufacturing.
For anyone with an appointment scheduled, the appointment may be changed to help with the transition. People will receive a letter notifying them of this change.
