CROSBY - Cuyuna Regional Medical Center's Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery received accreditation to become the second level 1a bariatric surgery center in Minnesota. Mayo Clinic in Rochester has the other accreditation.
MIMIS recently received accreditation in the American College of Surgeons Level 1a Bariatric Surgery Network - the highest accreditation level offered.
MIMIS was recognized for its bariatric (weight loss) surgery program, surgical standards and continuous quality improvement.
Accredited bariatric surgery centers provide optimal care of morbidly obese patients. They support and provide the resources necessary to address the entire spectrum of care and needs of bariatric patients.
"This is a campus-wide achievement, requiring collaborative and coordinated care from all departments and staff," said Jon Rauen, surgical services administrator at CRMC, in a news release.
The Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery is a service of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center on the Medical Campus in Crosby.
