PIERZ -- Oliver A. Virnig, 89, Pierz, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls.
He was born Oct. 30, 1911, to Paul and Elizabeth (Simones) Virnig. He attended School District 39 in Buh Township and worked on the farm his grandfather homesteaded. He married Ramona C. Majerus on Sept. 30, 1947, in Harding. They farmed on the homestead until retiring in the mid-1970s.
Survivors include his wife, Pierz; three daughters, Mary Imgrund, Roseville, Lynette Virnig, Roseville, and Denise Blonigen, Upsala; four sons, Larry Virnig, Elk River, Dave Virnig, Pierz, Steve Virnig, St. Louis Park, and Leon Virnig, Pierz; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Sister M. Marcelline, OSF, Elk River.
Five sisters, Rose Becker, Sister M. Florentine OSF, infant Mary Virnig, Teresa Schwartzrock, and Genevieve Salzbrunn; and four brothers, Henry, Alex, Paul, and Nestor Virnig, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today, with a Franciscan wake at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Christian Mother's rosary at 7:30 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m. at Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, and from 8-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
