DUPAGE, Ill. -- The Central Lakes College Raiders volleyball team appears to be ready for the start of the conference season after winning two of three matches at the College of DuPage Invitational Saturday.
Kirkwood, Iowa, beat the Raiders in a semifinal match 15-10, 12-15, 15-11. CLC played the Division II team close until the final points of the third round.
"They came in first of five Division II teams in their pool," said CLC head coach Jane Peterson. "We had a chance. We were ahead in the third game until they turned on the power. We won't play very many teams that are as good as they are."
CLC defeated Longview, Mo., in its first game 15-5, 15-3, and then defending Division III national champion College of DuPage 15-11, 15-7, to set up the semifinal matchup against Kirkwood.
"We played really good, solid, consistent volleyball all weekend," said Peterson. "Our teamwork is excellent for this time of year. If individuals improve at what they need to improve at we will be very good."
